Botox’s Subtle Touches: Lip Flip, Gummy Smile and the Nefertiti Lift
Botox is not always about erasing lines
At low doses in the right muscle, Botox can make refined aesthetic adjustments without filler. These are precision treatments — a few units change the result.
1) Lip Flip
A very low dose (typically 2–6 units) into the upper-lip orbicularis oris. As the muscle relaxes, the upper lip gently "flips" outward and looks fuller on smiling — without filler.
- Suits: those who don’t want added volume, just to correct an upper lip that "disappears" on smiling, or to soften excessive upper-teeth show.
- Limit: not enough for real volume (that needs filler). Lasts 6–10 weeks (shorter than filler).
2) Gummy Smile
Excessive gum show on smiling comes from the muscles that pull the upper lip up (levator labii superioris alaeque nasi). A small dose there means the lip lifts less, reducing gum show.
- Suits: those bothered by gum show when smiling.
- Precision: dose and points are critical; too much causes asymmetry or a "flat" smile. Lasts 3–4 months.
3) Nefertiti Lift
The neck platysma muscle pulls down, blurring the jawline and revealing neck bands. Treating the upper-lateral platysma reduces that downward pull, so the jaw-neck line looks sharper. Named after Queen Nefertiti’s sharp jawline.
- Suits: mild jawline loss and neck banding, no surgery wanted.
- Limit: insufficient with marked skin laxity/sagging — that is surgery or thread-lift territory. Lasts 3–4 months.
A shared principle
All three are dose- and point-sensitive. We start conservatively and add at the day-14 review if needed. Not performed in pregnancy/breastfeeding or neuromuscular disease.
FAQ
“Lip flip or lip filler?” Filler for volume; lip flip for keeping the upper lip visible / a subtle correction. Sometimes both are planned together.
“Does gummy-smile correction last forever?” No — Botox is temporary (3–4 months). A permanent fix needs other (surgical) options.
“Does the Nefertiti lift tighten skin?” It doesn’t tighten skin; it relaxes the downward-pulling muscle to define the line. Not enough for marked sagging.
